Lasers, big and small screens, virtual reality, HD-videos, 3D-technology ... actually, none of these things can compare to the fascination of the 4 main, analogue elements – earth, water, air and fire in the form of fireworks, experienced in the middle of the festival crowd on the banks of Drava river. None of them.

Fireworks are a spectacle for the eyes and ears, which mixes with the musical accompaniment and the remains of the prehistoric awe of lightning and thunder. They are explosions of light patterns, that echo within us and draw stars, lights, and moons onto the sky. They are momentary flashes of the known city’s skyline in a totally new light and in the reflection from the surface of Drava that stay in the eye for a moment – and find their way to the heart.

For Lent Festival the fireworks mean the same thing as the city does to the festival – they are a symbol, a festive show of colours and darkness that explodes into the final victory of light. The symbol of magical creativity that marks the region, the city and the Festival as the center of that kind of energy that gives impulses and ideas bringing and preserving the hope for a better future and the belief in creativity of people.

Therefore it is only right that the Lent Festival starts and ends with fireworks.
