6th INTERNATIONAL BRASS BAND FESTIVAL

The Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck is a traditional Austrian marching and concert musikkapelle(band) from the southernmost part of Austria called Styria.

The band was established around 1854 and consists of approximately 55 musicians. It is made up of brass instruments, woodwinds and drums and 5 sutlers.

The musicians of the Grenzlandtrachtenkapelle Mureck range from age 10 to age 75. Their traditional uniform is composed of a green jacket, a red vest, black trousers with knee socks and a black and green hat.

Music is a major part of the Austrian culture and identity and so it is of most musicians in this formation.

In recent years this band had the honor of playing for the governor of Styria and for the President of Austria.

In 2015 this Austrian brass band got awarded a price for major achievements from the governor of Styria.

Over the years the orchestra played in a number of countries including Germany, Lichtenstein, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy and is playing for 2016 in Belgium.
